(yes, this blog is rated pg-13)
it’s time once again for one of the biggest farces in Portland Popular music….the PMA’s!
The portland music awards is the cheesiest, lamest and most inaccurate portrayal of who is who in Portland. We already knew that the ‘official portland music publication,’ Music Spectator, sucked. But do they really have to rub it in our faces by fluffing up the egos of these so called “winners.”
At this point I will completely renounce what I have just said by telling you that I did, in fact, VOTE. My god I am such a hypocrite. There s one category that i feel i should vote in, and that is the compilation category. I only vote because i understand the hard work that goes into PDX Pop Now! It’s not just one record label owner who puts his friends all together in one greatest hits album. This is months of work done by a comitee of volunteers, who reap practically nothing for it except bragging rights.
So go to the Music Spectator website and vote for PPN, but no one else!
and tune in today on PRARADIO.org for No Hit Hero as we completly make fun of everything about the PMA’s, except for PDX Pop Now’s accomplishments
signed the hypocrite of the week,
Saffron
Saffron,
I will first say that I agree with a lot of what you say about this “awards show”. I agree that it is RIDICULOUS! I agree that it, in general, is a really inaccurate portrayal of Portland’s music scene. I do, however, think that there are some really quality artists caught up in the whole mess that HAVE been nominated amongst the rubbish. Blind Pilot and Tea for Julie are hardly crap and they’ve BOTH been part of PDXPOPNOW and the Portland scene in a BIG way! Also, record stores like Jackpot and Music Millenium who have done A LOT to support our music community. We shouldn’t want to do them a disservice by hollistically talking trash. Nor, do we want to appear as stuffed up snotty hipsters who think that the bands WE like are the only ones making music in this town. That’s just one opinion =)
I didn’t see my last comment go up but I forgot to also mention HorseFeathers along with Blind Pilot and Tea for Julie as having been a part of PDXPOPNOW, being relevant and not deserving wrath by association to this whole thing.
i do agree with you , Emily. There certainly are quality artists on the nominations this time around. I find it even more hilarious that Guitar Center is a nominee for best music store! Puh-lease!
