Under Construction!

The new PRA studio is rockin my world!  we have framed out the on-air studio and hung our soundproofing material!

check out the photos:

Thanks to everyone for their help with paying for the new studio and especially to Ed (contractor) and Matt K (architect), for using those wonderful trade skills to make this happen.  Your donated work has really saved us a bundle of cash.  I really love knowing that this studio is being built from scratch, by PRA, for PRA.  We estimate that we will be broadcasting from our new studio by next sunday or monday.

Well, Well, Well

I certainly hope you are as exited as I am. I have been the Station Manager of Portland Radio Authority for almost 2 years now, and it seems like my goals are finally reaching fruition. I would like to thank all of our lovely community supporters, and especially all the DJs who keep this little station afloat by paying their dues every month. The light at the end of the tunnel is that we are moving the station into a nicer building, with nicer neighbors and nicer landlords. Good Lord! It is about time.   The last step to this move is getting the security deposit together in time for us to move in next weekend.  If you happen to have an extra $5 in your bank account…..please help us make this dream a reality!   And if that wasn’t good enough….our website is almost finished! You can check out the bare bones of it here.  It’s your basic Drupel site, user friendly and easy to update.  Our current website is a tad out of date, so this is excellent news.

New Concept……3 on 3

And we are not talking about basketball here. 3 songs from 3 different albums from the same artist. I am going to give it a try! here is my set list so far for Wed the 18th:

Talkdemonic: Mutiny Sunshine from Mutiny Sunshine 2004 Mountain Tops and Caves from Beat Romantic 2006 Duality of Deafening from Eyes st Half Mast 2008

Laura Gibson: w/ White Hinderland on Art Deco House from Phylactery Factory 2008 Hands in Pockets from If You Come to Greet Me 2007 Cupid from Colin Meloy Sings Sam Cooke 2008

Colin Meloy: California One/Youth and Beauty Brigade from Castaways and Cutouts 2002 Gymnast from Colin Meloy Sings Live! 2008

Norfolk and Western: Ancient Cry from The Ocean EP 2005 The Evergreen from Winter Farewell 2002 w/ Blanket Music Impossible from The Love/Love Translation 2006

Blanket Music: Hyperballad from Read: Interpreting Bjork 2003 Hips from Move CD 2002

Blue Skies For Black Hearts: Truth and Love from This Black Heart is Gonna Break 2002 Siousxie Please Come Home from Serenades From Hand Grenades 2008 Can’t Fall in Love from Turn the Lights Out 2006

Nick Jaina: The Red Queen from The 7 Stations 2007 Power from Wool 2008 Walking into a Burning House from A Narrow Way 2008

Andy Combs and the Moth:  Lets Ride from PDX Pop Now! Comp 2008 Service Station from The Robot in the Clouds 2007

I am starting out with some mellow and well known bands, to make it easy on myself :)
As the tides roll by, however, i think it will be a fun challenge to come up with portland artists that have appeared on 3 different albums. Some of the 3on3 sets do overlap, i know, but its not cheating because there really aren’t any rules on this show.

So to into Portland Radio Authority this Wed from 6p-8p and enjoy these blocks from your local faves!

Holy Shit!

(yes, this blog is rated pg-13)

it’s time once again for one of the biggest farces in Portland Popular music….the PMA’s!

The portland music awards is the cheesiest, lamest and most inaccurate portrayal of who is who in Portland.  We already knew that the ‘official portland music publication,’ Music Spectator, sucked.  But do they really have to rub it in our faces by fluffing up the egos of these so called “winners.”

At this point I will completely renounce what I have just said by telling you that I did, in fact, VOTE.  My god I am such a hypocrite.  There s one category that i feel i should vote in, and that is the compilation category.  I only vote because i understand the hard work that goes into PDX Pop Now!  It’s not just one record label owner who puts his friends all together in one greatest hits album.  This is months of work done by a comitee of volunteers, who reap practically nothing for it except bragging rights.

So go to the Music Spectator website and vote for PPN, but no one else!

and tune in today on PRARADIO.org for No Hit Hero as we completly make fun of everything about the PMA’s, except for PDX Pop Now’s accomplishments :)

signed the hypocrite of the week,

Saffron
